Flying High with Hannah Teter

So, what does it feel like to be flying through the air at high speeds with nothing but tonsa white snow below you?

We found out when we talked to Olympic snowboarder Hannah Teter. She nabbed a gold medal in the 2006 Olympics and starred in the snowboarding documentary First Descent.

Now, she’s hoping to top the podium again at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. We chatted Hannah up as she was on her way back from training in New Zealand and she spilled everything from why she’s an organic girl to why she never feels like she leaves home (even if she’s halfway around the world).

GL: How many hours a day do you train?

Hannah Teter: We usually train about 3 or 4 hours a day.

GL: Whoa, that’s a lot. So, what’s been your biggest wipeout?
HT: I’ve had a few of those. Probably when we were filming First Descent.

GL: How do you get the guts to get back up and keep doing it?
HT: Well, as long as you don’t get injured, it’s not bad. It makes you tougher, it makes you stronger knowing you fell and you can get up and keep doing it.

GL: In one word, describe how it feels to be up in the air doing a jump?
HT: Freedom. It’s total freedom. Your mind’s quiet and you’re just up there in the moment in the air. I know that’s more than one word.

GL: What’s your favorite food?
HT: Organic anything. Once you start reading about what’s really in your food, you wanna start eating organic foods. Whenever we go to a new place I always stop in a health food store.

GL: How did you feel when you found out Ben & Jerry’s named an ice cream flavor after you?
HT: I was really involved in the whole process. I helped out with the wording on the back of the pint about the charity that I started and I was involved in testing the flavor. They kinda wanted something with maple and that’s definitely something I like and would choose.

GL: What do you miss most when you’re away from home?
HT: Well I bring everything with me. All my bags weigh about 60 pounds. And I usually have one of my brothers with me, too. So I take home on the road.

GL: What is one of your goals for the near future?
HT: Definitely being at the Olympics on the podium. And just having fun being with my friends and family.

Well, we hope Hannah will land gold again this year. GL will def be cheering her on!
