All grown-up?

I feel like I'm too mature. When I talk about boys, my friends just go, "EWW!" I'm 11, and people in my elementary school date already. If I talk about what's going on in a regular girl's life, they look at me like I'm insane.

I just don't get it. Tell me what I should do to fix this sitch!

Hey girly, first of all, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you for being mature. Actually, it’s awesome and shows that you’re responsible and sensible. Now, unfortunately, you’re at an age where some of your friends and classmates may not be at your level. But that doesn’t mean you should change who you are.

Crushes don't have cooties

Next time you’re talking about boys and they say “ewww!” ask them what, exactly, is so gross about boys. If they try to tell you boys have “cooties,” or something, kindly explain, “No, boys don’t have cooties. They’re actually pretty cool once you get to know them.” Then give a quick explanation of why you like guys. Maybe they give you pointers on your free throws in gym, they're always drama-free or they always have the "in" with really cool new bands.

Love where you're at!

Being mature is definitely a good thing and will certainly help you in middle and high school. But you shouldn’t judge your friends for being less grown-up than you. Everyone develops at different rates—some faster and some slower. The best thing you can do is lead by example. Try engaging them in conversations about topics that are important to you. Instead of looking at you like you have three heads, your friends may start looking up to you.

But you also don’t want to take life too seriously. Enjoy being young while you can! It’s OK to giggle about crushes, gab about your fave TV shows and just being really, really silly. So, enjoy every moment and love where you're at right now!

Best of luck,
L’Oreal
