Getting mom and pops back together

My mom and dad got divorced three years ago, but I know they’re still in love with each other because my dad has said that he thinks about her a lot and keeps pictures of her everywhere. My mom says she’s still in love with him but wants to move to California. I want to get them back together before it’s too late, but I don’t know what to do.

Hey there, girl. Sorry to hear you’re in such a tough sitch. It can be hard to have divorced parents, but ‘rents who are separated and still love each other…talk about complicated! Before you do anything, babe, there are some things you need to keep in mind.

Everything happens for a reason

Now I’m not trying to burst your bubble, but I do want to make sure you completely understand the sitch. Mom and Dad seem like they’re still into each other, but don’t forget that their relationship is way complicated. Even though they still have feelings for each other, they got divorced for a reason. I don’t wanna sound like a downer, but it takes a lot more than that li’l four letter word to make a marriage work.

Playing matchmaker

It’s totally normal for you to want to set up your ‘rents. I mean, what girl wouldn’t? It’s not a bad idea to talk to each of your parents first. They’re the only ones who can tell you how they feel and explain their divorce. Chatting it up with them will give you some insight into their relationship—and whether or not you should be trying to play matchmaker in the first place.

If you’re dead set on doing something, you can try to have a dinner with both of them at once. Maybe sparks will start a-flyin’. If it all works out, that’s great, girl! But if they don’t, please don’t blame yourself or bear the burden of constantly trying to get them back together.

The #1 thing to remember

No matter how things work out (whether they get back together or not), I want you to always remember that mama and papa love you. Period. Their first job is being good parents, and they will ALWAYS want what’s best for you. You have two parents who absolutely adore you, regardless of their relationship status. Everything will work out for the best, girl, and I know you’ll all be just fine.

Best wishes,
~Kristen Y. <3
