Makeover your makeup bag!

Okay, ‘fess up: Is your makeup bag full of bold lipsticks and sparkly shadows you bought but never wore? Do you have trouble finding your fave lip gloss among the gunky nail polish and eyeliner shavings at the bottom of your make-up bag? Yeah, we’ve been there too. It’s time to give your make-up bag a makeover, and GL is bringing ya the how-to for taking your cosmetic kit from hot mess to uncluttered ‘n sweet.

Out with the old…

While it’s tempting to use your foundation to the last drop, that’s not always the best idea. Beauty products expire, and it’s important to get rid of old make-up because it can be bad for your skin. We scoped out Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, by famous make-up pro Bobbi Brown, to see when it’s time to say sayonara to your cosmetics:

Foundation, concealer, and powder: 2 years

Mascara: 6 months

Lipstick: 12 to 18 months

Eyeshadow: 2 years

Powder or cream blush: 2 years

Moisturizer and sunscreen: 2 years

To make cleaning out your stash easier in the future, write the date on the bottom of your products when ya first open them.

Brush up on brush care
It’s also important to keep your brushes clean. Even if ya use specific ones for each shadow and blush, it’s good to clean ‘em up every once in a while. This brush cleaner spray makes the job super-easy:

It’s also crucial to store your brushes properly – you can use a brush roll like the pros, but pencil cups work perf too.

Cute and clutter-free

Now that you’ve cleaned up your supplies, store them in an adorable organizer. We heart the always-classic Caboodles – check out this one in edgy black lace:
