Chelsea Phaire, 10, is sending art supplies to kids in homeless shelters

The COVID-19 pandemic has so many of us asking one big question: "How can we help?" Though she's just a child herself, Chelsea Phaire, a 10-year-old from Danbury, Connecticut, found a sweet and thoughtful way to brighten the days of 1,500 underprivileged children.

Chelsea's mom, Candace Phaire, told CNN that her daughter has been begging her since the age of 7 to start a charity. Inspired by her big heart, the family set up Chelsea's Charity last August with a unique concept: To raise money for art supplies for homeless and foster-system children.

Here's how it works: Chelsea makes an Amazon wish-list for the supplies, donors log on to purchase the items, Chelsea gathers the items into individual kits and then, if possible, delivers the kits herself.

From August 2019 to February 2020, the family sent out nearly 1,000 kits, and since stay-at-home orders started to be put in place in March, they've sent out an additional 1,500.

"I feel good inside knowing how happy they are when they get their art kits," Chelsea told CNN. "I have definitely grown as a person because of this. Now my dream is to meet every kid in the entire world and give them art. Who knows, maybe if we do that and then our kids do that, we'll have world peace!"

How inspiring is that?!
