Debby Ryan’s snagged herself a leading role! The 18-year-old Suite Life on Deck cutie is now starring in her own series, Jessie, premiering this Friday night at 9 p.m ET/PT on Disney Channel.

The show follows Jessie, a small-town girl who decides to move from the starry skies of Texas to the bright lights of New York City. And once she gets there, she accepts a job as a nanny and moves in with the wealthy Ross family, their children, Emma, Ravi, Luke and Zuri, and Ravi’s seven-foot Asian Water Monitor Lizard, Mr. Kipling. Can Jessie make it in the Big Apple, or will city life get to her head?

We recently chatted with Debby not only about her latest show, but all things fashion—both on and off the set. Here’s what we found out…

Jessie’s style is cute and practical… “She wears a lot of knee-length dresses and cowboy boots. It’s a little more modest and practical to be picking the kids up in."

…But also unique. “I feel like Jessie doesn’t want to walk into a room where she’s wearing what someone else is wearing.”

Debby’s favorite outfit from the show? “Dark skinny jeans with red clunky wedges, which were actually super comfortable. I wore it in the pilot episode and then it had this corset top with little flowers and ruffles on it.”
