    14. Lorde Starts The New Year Right

Lorde knew that 2014 would be a good year since it started off with her hit song “Royals” winning a Grammy for Song of the Year! Lorde has risen to fame and is continually making amazing music—especially for Mockingjay Part 1, which got her a nomination for a Golden Globe (tune in to NBC Jan. 11 to see if she wins). We’re sure 2015 will start just as well!

    13. A 1D Proposal

The Internet went crazy when a video of a boyfriend proposing to his girlfriend at a One Direction concert went viral. The boyfriend, Bradley, tweeted at all the boys, the band, and their families to try to get them to help him surprise his girlfriend, Christine, with the best proposal out there. Eventually, with the help of Directioners using the hashtag #1DProposal, Harry Styles followed Jon on Twitter and asked him how he could help. During the show, Harry said that he had a friend in the rows who wanted to ask a question. Fast forward to the cameras zooming in to show Bradley on one knee asking Christine to marry him. Precious!

    12. Sochi Winter Olympics

Although it may seem as if it happened years ago, the Sochi Winter Olympics happened this past winter! From Olympic snowboarding cuties who stole our hearts (Gus Kenworthy, anyone?) and the United States taking home a total of 28 medals, it was a pretty exciting winter.

    11. No More Sam & Cat

The wildly popular Nickelodeon TV show got cancelled after only one full season this summer. The show brought back favorite characters from iCarly and Victorious, and it wasn’t cancelled because of low views. Co-stars Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy reportedly weren’t getting along. Ariana was becoming more involved with her music and Jennette was still devoted to the show, which cause some major problems. Although we miss seeing Sam & Cat, we’re glad that the two are being successful doing what they love!

    10. Ariana’s Awakening

Speaking of Ariana Grande, she has truly made a name for herself in 2014 (minus her show’s demise). It’s hard to go anywhere without listening to her songs or seeing her face on the cover of a magazine. In one year, she went from Nickelodeon star to pop princess and it doesn’t look like she’s stopping any time soon. Her second album, My Everything, has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album, making it her first Grammy nomination. And just like that, we have a hunch 2015 will be even bigger for her.

    9. He for She

The world was turned upside down when Emma Watson gave her speech at the United Nations conference in September and discussed the “He For She” campaign on gender equality. Emma encouraged men to not disregard feminism because it’s important in their lives as well. In response, tons of our fave Hollywood hotties tweeted out in support of the amazing cause. Emma has inspired millions of people across the globe and we can’t wait to see what she does in 2015!

    8. Miley’s Acceptance

Last year, Miley topped our list for going absolutely insane at the VMAs. This year, she’s on the list because of the VMAs—but for a completely different reason. When Miley won Video of the Year, her acceptance was a bit unusual. Instead of going on stage, Miley’s friend Jesse accepted the award on her behalf. Jesse then went on to say that he was part of the 1.6 million homeless youths and directed them to learn more about My Friend’s Place, a homeless shelter for teens in Los Angeles. Cyrus is a huge supporter of the shelter and wants there to be more awareness about homelessness.

    7. 1989 in 2014

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift has become one of the biggest names in the music scene. So when she released her newest album, it was confirmed that she’s a force to be reckoned with. In the first week, 1989 reportedly sold over 1.2 million copies, being the first solo artists to do so since 2002. It seems that there is nothing this chick can’t do.

    6. Not A Family Affair

When we found out that Selena Gomez fired her parents as her managers this past spring, we were shocked. As hard as it was to believe, Sel spoke out about how it was “a long time coming” and how “everyone is in mutual agreement.” The fam wanted to be able to actually be a family instead of talking about business all the time, which makes sense. And it looks like the split worked because Sel is reportedly getting back to bringing us new tunes in the new year.

    5. Girl Meets World

When Disney announced its plan to make a sequel series to Boy Meets World, the reactions varied from extremely excited to upset and nervous. Both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel came back to revive their roles as Cory and Topanga Matthews, but viewers were nervous as to whether or not it would live up to the expectations. Season 1 premiered this summer—and it was a hit! The show has been renewed for a second season and will reportedly feature tons of our old fave characters like Eric, Mr. Feeney and Cory’s parents.

    4. Queen Bey

2014 was the year of Beyonce. From her killer VMA performance discussing the importance of feminism to dropping a secret visual album, she has been the queen. Often compared to the Queen of England, Beyonce has stolen everyone’s hearts, and our love for her grew even more when she went on the road with her hubby, Jay- Z, and daughter, Blue, over the summer. Our bets are that Queen Bey is not giving up her rule any time soon.

    3. Ellen’s Oscar

Ellen DeGeneres hosted one of the funniest and most surprising Oscars ever this year! From taking the selfie that broke the Internet to delivering pizza to the celebs in the front row halfway through the show, it’s all anyone could talk about for weeks. Ellen was able to bring her spontaneity and humor to the usually serious show. We hope that next year’s is just as fun!

    2. Nick Jonas Goes Solo

Last year, the Jonas Brothers made the list due to their decision to permanently split as a band. This year, Nick is standing alone on the chart. This JoBro decided to go solo, and is making us remember why we fell in love with him in the first place. His hit song “Jealous” is played on the radio 24/7 and he is set to open for Iggy Azalea next year. As weird as it is to see him alone on stage, we’re glad we still have one Jonas to be crazy for.

    1. RIP Robin Williams

It was the news that shocked the world: Robin Williams had died. The actor who had brought some of the most beloved characters to life on the big screen is now gone. Although there is a lot of speculation on his death, what we do know is that he brought laughter and joy to millions of people during his life. From The Genie in Aladdin to Mrs. Doubtfire, Robin always made us feel happy. Thankfully, we can see Robin on the big screen right now as President Roosevelt in Night At The Museum: Secret of the Tomb. movie which hits theaters on December 19.
