Are you ready, comic book fans? DC Comics is launching an all-girl initiative

Back in February, 11-tear-old Rowan Hansen raised her voice for all the girls out there who love comic books. In a letter to DC Comics, Rowan demanded more girl power, and later on The Today Show, she explained that in addition to wanting more super girls, our favorite butt-kicking heroines need more practical costumes to keep them protected.

"Why doesn't Wonder Woman get to wear armor?" Rowan asked. "I know that she's kind of invulnerable, but it would still be nice if she didn't wear a bathing suit all the time." Her letter went viral and was posted all over social media. Other girls joined her cause, too, posting pictures of themselves wearing their fave superhero costumes to support Rowan's idea.

Consider the message received. After hearing about Rowan's campaign, and all the girls who got on board, DC Entertainment announced that they will be launching a new comic initiative called DC Super Hero Girls. The comics will feature fan favorites Super Girl, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy and more. Made for kids ages 6-12, DC will also introduce toys, digital content and TV specials for the heroine line.

Here at GL, we love everything girl power and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the initiative, expected to launch this fall.

Who’s your favorite female superhero? What about your fav lady villain? Tell us in the comments below.
