Exclusive: Sixx Orange dishes on her new Amazon show The Kicks

With the recent U.S. Women's National Team's Win at the 2015 FIFA World Cup, we've been pretty into all things soccer lately. So has Sixx Orange, the thirteen-year-old actress who's taken on the role of Devin Burke in Amazon's The Kicks. Based on the book series with the same name by gold-medal winning Olympian and author Alex Morgan, The Kicks tells the hilarious story of a soccer star girl moved cross country by her fam who has to find her new place at school—and on a losing team. We chatted with Sixx to get the full deal on her role as Devin and working with Alex. Check it out.

GL: How did you land the role of Devin in Amazon's new pilot for The Kicks?

Sixx: I auditioned—it was a lot of work but an unforgettable experience.

GL: Do you have a lot in common with Devin?

Sixx: We share a lot! We both have a huge love for soccer and think of the field as our comfort zone. I also moved from the east coast to the west coast and we had mutual feelings for sure. When you think of California you think of a huge golden place where dreams come true and you do not want to be the one to fail. It's intimidating, but I believe Devin and I will succeed.

GL: When did you start playing soccer, and when did you start acting?

Sixx: I started playing soccer when I was four-years-old and I have loved it ever since. I started professionally acting one year ago, but I have been going to acting camps for a couple years now.

GL: Awesome. So what's the best part about being in The Kicks?

Sixx: The best part is working with the most amazing director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, David Babcock, and the super cast. Everyone is the best!

GL: Did you get to work with Alex Morgan at all? What was it like bringing her story to life?

Sixx: It was a dream come true being able to be a part of bringing Alex’s books to life. Alex is one of the sweetest most humble people you will meet and a true inspiration.

GL: Can you tell us any stories about filming the pilot?

Sixx: A really funny story was a scene I was filming with Noah Urrea. Do you remember the locker scene? After the first take I shut the locker, and then when we filmed the second take I tried opening the locker but it had accidentally locked. So I was just standing there saying my lines while trying to pry open the locker. It was really funny because Noah and I could barely keep it together. I was trying to carry on the scene but I had locked myself out.

GL: That's hilarious. If you could only describe your show in three words, what would you pick?

Sixx: Exciting, relatable and fun!
