Meet Disney's newest princess, Moana

At the D23 Expo last week, Disney introduced their new and very first Polynesian princess, Moana Waialiki. Moana is a "born navigator" who sets sail to find a mythical island in Oceania, and rumor has she'll remind you of Disney's other modern princesses—like Brave’s Merida and Frozen’s Elsa and Anna. If that's the case, we already know we're going to love her.

And, like most princesses, Moana will get her very own trusty animal sidekicks, too: a pig named Pua and a rooster named Hei Hei. As far as casting goes, we haven't heard much, but we do know that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (who's Polynesian himself, specifically Samoan) will be playing a demigod named Maui.

Sketches and stills of the upcoming CGI-animated film were also shown at the D23 Expo panel and it already looks to be a very exciting film. Most exciting for us is the opportunity to explore a new culture on the Disney screen and to add some more diversity to the Disney princess line up.

Check out some short highlights from the Moana presentation below.

What do you think of Disney's Moana so far? Are you excited for it to hit theaters November 23rd, 2016?
