Dylan wrote the song two years ago for her best friend who lost her mom to cancer when she was only 12 years old. Even though the song was written about this particular circumstance—the lyrics are relatable to any person who has ever struggled with grieving a loved one.  

The "Birthday Cake" music video is a real tear jerker. It features Dylan decorating a cake with the number "48" on it, in tribute to her friend's mom. The lyrics depicting this moment are featured in the song: Like she made it to 48 / Still made your birthday cake. The video also supports the American Cancer Society—where people can donate straight from the video.
