The Real Deal on SPF

It’s officially sunscreen season, which means trolling the aisles at CVS to find the perf sunblock. With labels ranging from SPF 4 to hardcore SPF 100+, it’s difficult to figure out which bottle is best.

A recent article on Boston.com reported consumers are often confused by way-high numbers, believing, say, SPF 80 is two times as effective as SPF 40 (which isn’t true). The FDA is considering making SPF 50 the cut-off for claims, because ones that are high may only offer slightly more protection.

One thing we do know? You should apply sunscreen every day and always use at least SPF 30. Don’t forget to reapply.
