Is it OK to be mean to mean girls?

We’re pretty sure mean girls have existed since the dawn of time. We don’t like it, but yeah, they seem to be a fact of life. Now that society’s gone viral, though, mean girls aren’t quite as safe from criticism as they used to be.

First there was Rebecca Black. Now, a duo called Double Take has released a music video for their song, “Hot Problems.” It’s not meant to be good; the girls, both 17, admit to that. But what seems to be getting the most attention isn’t the quality of the singing but the lyrics themselves. Here’s a sampling: “Boys call me stuck up; girls say I'm conceited, on behalf of all hot girls, those comments aren't needed.”

Take a look at the video…

The two L.A. natives are self-proclaimed hotties. So predictably, much of the commentary surrounding the video questions their appearance. Girls and guys alike have dished it out, calling them wanna-be porn stars, dudes in drag and all varieties of ugly.

We all have a right to free speech, but here’s our question: These girls might be queen bees, mean girls, the girls that pick on everyone else. They could be perfectly sweet, too—we can’t say as we don’t know them personally. But on principle, is it OK to be mean to mean girls? And how mean is too mean?
