Jam Out While You Work Out

workoutjam.jpg

We’ve all been there: Totally beat from a kick-butt workout and almost ready to give up. All of a sudden Chris Brown's “Kiss Kiss” starts playing on your iPod. Suddenly, you can’t stop running or dancing. And, you’ve picked up the pace a li’l, too.

It isn’t your imagination; there’s scientific reasoning behind this sudden burst of energy. According to the New York Times, studies have shown that listening to music while you exercise helps you stay motivated, keeps your endurance sky-high, and gives you a more effective workout overall. Plus, you’re less likely to notice how hard you’re workin’.

When pickin’ a playlist, one of the most important things to keep in mind is a song’s tempo. A perfect workout jam would have about 130 B.P.M. (beats-per-minute). Not sure what that songs like? Rihanna’s "Umbrella" fits the bill, and so do most dance tunes.

If you really wanna amp up your routine, pick songs with a super-fast tempo. Match the beat, and you’ll really give your bod a killer workout. Oh, and don’t forget to pick songs that you, um, actually like. Keep yourself positive and motivated by listening to your absolute faves.
