Thinking of Claire Davis (and hoping for peace this holiday season)

In the last ten days, the United States has been rocked once again by a school shooting. Last year, 26 perished. This year, we lost Claire Davis, who was fatally shot by a classmate at Arapahoe High School in Colorado.

Her parents released a statement over the weekend. Here is a brief excerpt: "Although we have lost our precious daughter, we will always be grateful for the indelible journey she took us on over the last 17 years — we were truly blessed to be Claire's parents. The grace, laughter and light she brought to this world will not be extinguished by her death; to the contrary, it will only get stronger."

All we can say as we think of another candle that has been extinguished is, we hope that peace will come. And we don't just mean that the wars being fought around the world will end. We want to see peace everywhere, in our communities and homes and schools. We want to see kindness--perhaps that should be the gift we give each other this holiday season.

Love to you all,
