PhotoMath app: Super helpful math tutor or a tricky new way to cheat?

Wouldn't it be nice to solve any math problem at your fingertips? Well, the creators of the PhotoMath app may have called in a few favors from your fairy godmother.

PhotoMath was launched last week and has officially become the world's first camera calculator. All ya need to do is snap a photo and the app will do all the work for you (we're not kidding)!

Sound impossible? Think again.

PhotoMath uses text recognition technology (aka: your phone can basically read the equation and solve it). And as an added bonus, the app gives you step-by-step instructions on how to get the answer so you aren't totally confused on how you got from point A to point B (phew!).

So, does the app seem like an easy-way out of your dreaded math homework? Not so fast -- app creators think otherwise:

"PhotoMath can work as a math aid for kids who don't have access to a tutor... or for parents who who need help advising their kids on math homework," said the app's CEO, Damir Sabol. The app is def assessable to anyone who downloads it and can help with super-tricky problems that the teach may have forgotten to review.

But, school officials are becoming more and more weary of apps like PhotoMath, especially when we live in such a tech-hungry culture. They think that students are relying more on apps and websites to get the grade (hello, Google!). So as a result, teachers are worried that students will rely too much on this technology for answers and then when it comes to test time, they will either fail or try to cheat.

Would you ever use PhotoMath or have you already tried it? Do you think the app is a helpful math tutor or a sneaky way to cheat? Share in the comments below.
