“The Hate U Give” trailer left us both emotional and empowered

“Don’t never let nobody make you be quiet.” This is just one of the powerful quotes from the official trailer for "The Hate U Give," which was released over the weekend.

The movie, based off of Angie’s Thomas’s best-selling novel, is finally hitting theaters on October 19th. The movie illuminates a range of important issues surrounding the African American community such as police brutality, racism and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Amandla Stenberg shines as Starr Carter, a 16-year-old girl who is inspired to become a Black Lives Matter activist after a policeman kills her best friend, Khalil, played by Algee Smith. With pressure from the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what's right—no matter the cost.
