Gym Class Heroes
Riding your bike or learning yoga on your Wii may be some of the fun ways you stay active on the weekends. But, turns out, some schools in New York are turning to fun, noncompetitive activities for physical education, according to a recent article in the New York Times. Who knew you could get graded for doin’ Dance Dance Revolution?
New York State schools on Long Island are mixing noncompetitive activities (like, Pilates) with gym-class standards, like basketball. Schools hope that adding exercise that people do for their entire life (like rock climbing or yoga) will encourage kids to stay active even when phys ed is over.
Making gym more fun—and practical--is the perfect way to keep us exercising and healthy for years.
