Nothing seems more amazing than when a teenager makes a huge scene in the music industry. It’s even more amazing when they have a story like Charice Pempengeo’s.

The 18-year-old from Laguna, Philippines, started her music career by entering amateur singing competitions to help support her mother and little bro. When a fan from one of the competitions put videos of Charice’s performances on YouTube, she became an Internet phenomenon.

Loaded with songs that have a relaxed, poppy vibe, the tunes showcase Charice’s outstanding vocal ability. Our faves? “Pyramid” and “Nothing,” which have amazing dance-worthy beats. Then there are songs like, “Note to God,” which show a great deal of honesty and rawness.

Despite all the praise Charice has gotten for her larger-than-life voice, she remains a down-to-earth role model. Having performed in many charity concerts, she’s helped spread environmental awareness in the Philippines and has even become an International Youth Ambassador for Operation Smile.
