Call me maybe? DIY costumes inspired by our fave songs

When it comes to creating Halloween costumes, we couldn’t help but get a little song-spiration from our fave stars. Whether you’re trick-or-treating, hitting a Halloween bash or just braving a haunted hayride this year, you’re bound to get a round of applause when you step out in a creation inspired by these top tunes. So grab the glitter, face paint and your guitar and get ready to rock this year’s spooky season.
“Firework” by Katy Perry

This costume calls for glitter, glitter and more glitter! Start off with a colorful or glittery tutu or poufy skirt and a shiny patriotic top. Cut gold stars out of felt or fabric and glue long, colorful ribbons onto the backs. Use safety pins to secure stars onto your clothes and tie the leftover ribbons into your hair so that they fall at the same length as your locks. Finish off with some glittery hairspray, shimmery body lotion and some sparkly eye shadow and nail polish.

“Baby” by Justin Bieber

You’re never too old for trick-or-treating when you go out in this adorable garb. You’ll want to wear your most comfy PJs (footie pajamas work best). Next, carry a teddy bear and search for a bottle or rattle to bring along. You’ll stay warm and cozy all Halloween in this Justin-inspired costume.

“Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye

Copy this music video’s style and you’re sure to steal lots of costume compliments. Wear something with a bold pattern (anything with shapes would be perfect), then use face paint to draw large geometric shapes onto your face, neck, arms and legs. And that’s it! Everyone will want to know the girl in this creative costume.

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

You’ll need lots of fabric paint or permanent markers for this crafty getup. Start with a plain white T-shirt and draw lines along the front about two or three inches apart so that the shirt looks like a piece of loose leaf paper. On one of the top lines, write “Call Me?” in big letters. Draw a box on the next line with the word “yes,” a box with the word “no,” on the line below, and then a box with “maybe” in the line under that. Draw a big check in that “maybe” box, doodle hearts, number signs and question marks everywhere else and tote a toy phone with you all Halloween night while you act like you’re waiting for that big call.

“Cowboys and Angels” by Dustin Lynch

Take a cue from this heavenly fave and add some country flare to any angel costume. Cowboy boots and white, feathery wings are a must. Pair them with jeans or a southern-sweet skirt and flannel shirt. Then top it off with a cowboy hat, a halo or, hey, maybe even both.

“Teardrops on My Guitar” by Taylor Swift

First you’ll need a guitar: a toy one, blow-up one, or a cardboard cutout. Cut blue felt or fabric into large, oversized teardrops and safety pin them onto your clothes and tape one to your guitar (Tip: you want the tears to look like they’re falling). Using face paint, paint a big tear on one of your cheeks, and keep a tissue in your pocket all night long as you pretend to blot away those tears.
