GL heads to Vans Warped Tour

I’ve been attending the Vans Warped Tour for a few years now and this year was by far one of the best ones to date! To give you a little background, Warped Tour features bands that generally fall under the rock, punk, alternative and hardcore genres. But in recent years they’ve being featuring dubstep and ska/surf-rock bands as well.

Whether you’re catching the tour at an upcoming stop, or are considering the fun next year, I’m giving you the scoop on this ah-mazing music-filled event.

    What to wear:

The right outfit is essential for an enjoyable day at Warped Tour. Choose light clothes you don’t mind getting sweaty and aren’t too tight because there’s lots of bouncing! My outfit of the day? A Vans tank (of course!) and denim shorts with a purple belt for a pop of color. A pair of Converse kept my feet comfy all day while standing and walking around. As for jewelry, keep that to a minimum...or risk awkward tan lines.

    What to pack:

You’ll need cash for lunch, some shopping at merch tents and to participate in fun activities (you can get neon body paint for just a few bucks!). Bring your cell in case you get separated from your friends and definitely carry in a SEALED water bottle. There are stations where you can refill and it’s way cheaper than buying at the venue. Other than that, bring sunscreen to reapply and lip balm with SPF, plus sharpies for band signings and a highlighter to mark which bands in the program you want to see. Slap it all in a drawstring backpack and you’re good to go!

    What to do day-of:

First things first, get a program. They cost $2 and list all the bands playing that day, what time they’re playing and which stage they’re on. Don’t forget to check out the Vans merch tent (they give away free stuff sometimes) in between sets and visit your fave bands’ business tents. And remember: Stay hydrated. Who knew music could make us so thirsty?!

    Who to listen to:

Not only was this year’s Warped Tour lineup fantastic, it featured a lot of bands I’ve never seen in concert before. Silverstein and Chiodos, both hardcore rock bands, played some of my favorite songs. We Came As Romans did an awesome cover of The Wanted’s “Glad You Came.” Nevershoutnever! and Sleeping with Sirens packed the amphitheater with their hits. And, of course, there was the highlight of my day: 3OH!3. Such an unforgettable show!
