Ghosts, goblins and ghouls…Halloween is finally here and we just can’t escape the horror movies! For those of us who aren’t fans of scaring our brains out, GL has come up with a list of spook-tacular flicks that are festive enough to get you in the Halloween spirit without being super gory. Which will you be watching before Oct. 31?

    Under Wraps

This DCOM is to-die (ha, get it?) for. Under Wraps is about three middle school besties who find a mummy in the basement. Much to their surprise, the mummy awakens as Halloween approaches. At first, the friends are terrified of the mummy aka Harold (what a harmless name!), but soon they realize he’s just a clumsy man with a heart of gold who wants to be reunited with his long lost love. Trust us, you won’t want to keep this movie under wraps for long.

    Hocus Pocus

Never have we met a girl (or boy for that matter) who didn’t love Hocus Pocus. Another hauntingly-terrific flick, Hocus Pocus follows three witch sisters who are resurrected at Halloween and spend their time wreaking havoc on everything and everyone in their footsteps. It’s up to two teens and a little girl to stop their reign of terror. This classic Halloween movie stars Sarah Jessica Parker and is directed by Kenny Ortega, director of the HSM franchise. It will for sure give you a smile rather than a fright.

    Harry Potter (Any of them)

OK, so Harry Potter isn’t technically a Halloween movie, but come on! Wizards, dementors, serpents, giant cringe-worthy spiders, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (oh yes, we are superstitious), and the fear of death at every corner? How could this not be a Halloween film? The good thing about Harry Potter however, is that the wizarding world isn’t all haunt—Harry’s best friend Ron (our fave ginger) is oh-so-hilarious and cute that you’ll have no problem binge-watching HP until the early hours of the morning.

    Tower of Terror

Based off of the terrifying (but incredibly fun) theme park ride, Tower of Terror is another Disney film that creeps you out just enough to be completely captivated by the movie. No blood, guts, or gore here—just the haunting tale of the classic Tower of Terror.

    Casper Meets Wendy

Hilary Duff was pinch-her-cheeks adorable in her pre-Lizzie McGuire days as Wendy, best friend to Casper the friendly ghost. If you’re craving a little Halloween haunt without the nightmares, Casper Meets Wendy is the movie for you! Just listening to the cute voice of Casper, everyone’s favorite friendly ghost, is enough to want to watch it over and over again. Not only is this movie festive, you can watch it with the entire family (and you’ll actually want to).

    Halloweentown

Disney Channel sure does produce some awesome creepy thrillers! Halloweentown is possibly the cutest DCOM ever, following the life of new witch Marnie in Halloweentown, an alternate world filled with friendly ghosts, goblins and other creepy creatures. But things aren’t all good in Halloweentown and soon Marnie and her siblings find themselves trying to save it from evil forces before it’s too late. When you watch the original and can’t get enough, don’t worry, there are three more sequels to check out: Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, Halloweentown High and Return to Halloweentown.

    ET

ET is the most heartwarming story about a 10-year-old boy Elliott, who befriends the cutest little alien (yeah, you heard right, he’s adorable) and tries to help him return to his home planet. This is a story of love and friendship, and will forever be one of Steven Spielberg’s best films of all time.
