Clueless quotes to live by

The 1995 classic Clueless turns 25 this year, and after rewatching it for the *thousandth* time I've concluded that Amy Heckerling's masterpiece just does not age. Based on Jane Austen's beloved novel, Emma, Clueless tells the story of it girl Cher, on a mission to help others find love. The iconic film is full of memorable one-liners and enviable outfits, but some quotes make this movie straight up timeless. Keep on scrolling for a handful of Clueless quotes to live by!

"May I please remind you, it does NOT say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty!"

In this scene, Cher is debating over whether or not the United States should take in Haitian refugees, and uses an analogy about her father's 50th birthday. While the debate teacher calls her debates "unstructured and unresearched", by simplifying the argument and phrasing it so that her classmates could understand, Cher made a lot of points.

"In some parts of the universe, maybe not in Contempo Casuals, but in some parts, it’s considered cool to know what’s going on in the world.”- Josh

*Woke king* Josh thinks you're never too young to educate yourself on political issues and world news.

"I'm just highly selective. You see how picky I am about my shoes and those only go on my feet."

Cher advocates for bodily autonomy and assures teen girls everywhere that it's okay to ignore the peer pressure and wait until *you're* ready.

“She’s a full-on Monet. It’s like a painting, see? From far away, it’s okay. But up close, it’s a big old mess.”

Although Cher can be superficial at times, this epic art-burn reminds us that appearances only go so far and it's what's under the surface that really matters.

"Is Josh giving you [problems] because he's going through his post-adolescent idealistic phase?"- Dionne

Dionne isn't afraid to call out a poser, especially when they're being pretentious. Feel free to use this burn on your older siblings.

“Street Slang is an increasingly valid form of expression. Most feminine pronouns do have mocking, but not necessarily misogynistic undertones.”- Murray

Way too often, students, and especially students of color, are discredited for using slang in academic settings. Kudos to Murray for reminding everyone that using slang is not a reason to invalidate someone.

“Where’s my white collarless shirt from Fred Segal? It’s my most capable looking outfit!”

Cher knows the power of power dressing and even has a specific outfit set out for her driving test. Not a bad idea to copy next time you have an interview or an important test.

“I needed to find sanctuary in a place where I could gather my thoughts and regain my strength.”- Cher

Ok, so the joke is that as Cher says this line, the camera pans to a giant shopping mall. However, it is so important for every teen to have a safe place where they can clear their minds and reflect on the day. Whether it's a shopping mall or a library, everyone needs somewhere to meditate.

“Don’t you want to use your popularity for a good cause?”- Cher

Some celebrities could learn from this line. It's always a good idea to recognize your privilege and use it to support a cause you believe in.

In conclusion, this movie is a work of art that should be studied in every film class ever. To anyone who disagrees, we say:
