Everything you need to know about Disney's upcoming releases

Disney just announced their lineup of upcoming films and TV shows, and it's safe to say that we are *so* excited. On December 10, Disney hosted its annual Investor Day event. The virtual event focused primarily on announcing projects for Disney's direct-to-consumer streaming services Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. Here's what we're most excited about.

Star Wars fans, rejoice! This series about the heroic Jedi has been in talks for a while, but filming was postponed due to the pandemic. Ewan McGregor will return for the lead role of Obi-Wan, and Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader. Disney announced a huge batch of additional Star Wars content, too: a show about Ahsoka Tano, a Mandalorian-era story called Rangers of the New Republic and the series A Droid Story, just to name a few.

Tiana and Moana series

Among the five new animated series coming to Disney+ are two shows based on two of our favorite Disney princesses: Tiana and Moana. We can't wait to see what these spunky heroines will be up to in their new shows.

Hocus Pocus 2

The 1993 Halloween classic is making a comeback. While Disney hasn't confirmed any official casting themselves, the film's original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy revealed to FOX 5 that they all intended to return for the sequel.

Peter Pan & Wendy

Finally, the Peter Pan remake we've *all* been waiting for! Disney will take us back to Neverland in this live-action version of the classic fairytale. Jude Law will star as Peter, while Yara Shahidi will play the sassy fairy Tinkerbell.

Beauty and the Beast prequel series

We loved Disney's live-action adaptation of the animated classic Beauty and the Beast. This prequel series, coming to Disney+, will tell the story of the vain villain Gaston (Luke Evans) and his goofy sidekick LeFou (Josh Gad). Alan Menken, who composed the songs from the original Beauty and the Beast film, will be producing new music for the series.

Raya and the Last Dragon

This animated adventure film was announced last year, but this year, Disney announced that the film will be available in theaters and on Disney+ simultaneously. The story follows Raya, a girl living in the fantastical world of Kumandra. Raya is the first Disney princess inspired by Southeast Asian culture. We are so excited to see this warrior princess take the screen.

She-Hulk

Girl power superhero story? We're here for it. Marvel Studios announced a new comedy series called She-Hulk, based on the comic about the Gamma-powered lawyer, Jennifer Walters. Marc Ruffalo and Tim Roth will reprise their roles as the Hulk and Abomination, while Tatiana Maslany will take on the lead as She-Hulk.

The beloved toy from Andy's collection is returning in an upcoming Pixar feature film. Lightyear will tell the origin of our favorite Space Ranger. Chris Evans will provide the voice for Buzz.

Encanto

Anything involving Lin-Manuel Miranda (AKA the genius that brought us the music from Hamilton and Moana) is bound to be good, so we're pretty excited for this animated film. Encanto takes place in Colombia and follows a young girl whose family has special powers. The songs will be released in both Spanish and English.

There is *so* much more coming to Disney Studios over the next few years, so be sure to read up on it all!
