EXCLUSIVE! Benson Boone won't break your heart, but he will buy you coffee cake
Benson Boone dives into things headfirst—literally. From planning an ambitious cross-country tour (starting May 31) to jumping off of actual cliffs (do *not* try this at home), this adventurer-slash-artist isn't afraid to put his heart on the line, especially when it comes to his music.
Whether you're in the mood to celebrate new beginnings (try "Sugar Sweet") or have a good cry (it's a two-way tie between "In the Stars" and "Ghost Town"), Boone's sophomore EP Pulse is the perfect soundtrack to your early summer nights (or sad-girl cry sesh—we don't judge).
We sat down with Boone to talk concerts, coffee cake and, yes, cliff jumping. Be warned: You just might have a new crush in the making...
Girls' Life: You've got a birthday coming up next month. Any big plans?
Benson Boone: I'll actually be performing in San Diego for my birthday. I just want to be where my friends are, honestly. But I was thinking after the show that we might go night cliff jumping.
GL: That sounds unsafe.
Boone: We know a place that's not super high, so I'll probably go there. But it's not as scary as it sounds.
GL: If you say so. Getting back to that tour: What are you most looking forward to?
Boone: Engaging with the crowd. Every show, I pick somebody and go back and forth with them. I'm very interactive with my fans. I genuinely just love them to death.
GL: And which song is your fave to perform?
Boone: I have to give two answers. "In the Stars," definitely, because I feel super connected to the crowd during that one. But "Coffee Cake" is the coolest, and this tour is actually the first time that I'll perform it and people will know all the lyrics. *All* the energy is brought with "Coffee Cake."
GL: OK so coffee cake: Is it breakfast or a snack?
Boone: More of a breakfast thing. Like, a breakfast dessert thing. I would never eat just coffee cake for breakfast—I think I'm too hungry for that. But I would have a breakfast burrito and top that off with some coffee cake.
GL: Solid. Speaking of "Coffee Cake," a lot of your songs have a bit of a heartbreak theme. So tell us what happened.
Boone: I'm a very emotional person. I grew up with four sisters, and they've always made sure I'm good at talking about my feelings. Recently, went through a breakup, and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. It was my first real relationship, but now I have a lot of emotions to draw on and explore.
GL: So Benson Boone is single. What are you currently looking for?
Boone: I don't know exactly, and I don't think I'm going to know until it's right in front of me. I'm not consciously going out and looking for someone. But whoever it is, they'll find me.
