Okay,so I have gym, and in gym, the expect you to change your clothes. The problem, I have my period, and I can't use tampons, so how do I hide my big, bulky, pads during my " Aunt Flo's" monthly visit? Thanks.

Hey gingepie, you could always go to the bathroom or wear gym clothes on the day you have to change. Hope this helps! Xoxo Smile

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!
I got my first period on July 9th, and it went pretty normally. Now it's almost August 9th, so it will probably come again, right? Well on the 9th and 10th I have swimming lessons and a swimming exam that I can't/don't want to skip! That means I'll have to wear tampons, but I'm freaked out. I don't even know where it goes! So my question is: How do you put a tampon in??

Hey girl,

Your period might not come right on schedule, especially at first. But you're smart to be prepared! The tampon box will definitely have directions on the side. But this GL article is sure to help:

http://www.girlslife.com/post/2009/06/23/007-Period-Advice.aspx

Good luck! You can totally handle it.

Just one more question,
so do I have to buy anything to make the cramps go away. Cause it really really hurts like I'm being stabbed. How can I make them go away

Hey taylorisfab, mhm try taking some Tylenol and drinking ginger ale to settle your stomach. Even putting a heating pad on your tummy might help. Aww I hope you feel better! Frown

My stomach has been bothering me a lot lately. It feels like cramps. And then today when I went to the bathroom and saw some reddish pink stuff in my undies. Does it sound like a period? I really have no clue about this bc I'm homeschooled by my dad and he hasn't told me any of this. My parents are divorced and I spend most of my time at my dads house where I'm at now. If it is a period how do I tell him I got it and what should buy to use?

Hey taylorisfab, yeah I think that is your period. You should explain to him how your stomach has been bothering you, and that you think your period is coming. You should head to the supermarket, or places like CVS, Rite-Aid, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. and buy the green pads from Always that have wings. Wings on a pad just mean that there is a flap on each side of it that wraps around your underwear. This way blood won't leak onto your underwear. Let me know if you have anymore questions! hi! I'm new here at girlslife. (: just wanted to ask do you put MOD at the beginning of every comment you make or is it just when you have a question?

Hey taylorisfab, first, welcome to Girls Life!! Thanx a bunchies for joining. Smile And you only type MOD when you have a question you'd like us to answer. If you're just commenting beneath an article you don't need to type it. Let me know if you have any other questions! Xoxo Smile

i was just wondering if all the playtex tampons ever made open 360?
and same with the tampax, do all of them open width wise? or do some open 360 also? thanks!

Not all tampons open 360, either playtex or tampax. Some do, some don't. xx

Elizabeth provided some really good articles about using tampons. We all have been or will be there when being nervous about using tampons because we have to insert them, its not like an easy pad but if we want to swim and wear certain clothes tampons are needed.

The website "wikihow" has really good tips and diagrams on how to use tampons. Looking at GL and other websites made it easier for me when it came to using tampons. Good advice is not to tense up and let it relax down there when putting it inside and find the right angle to allow it to go in, using lubricant will also help. Its not that hard after you get used to it.

I want to start using tampons but I'm a little scared to. My mom and some other women in my family don't wear them and have always said to stay away from them, but I want to try them. I'm not sure what kind to buy. And I'm worried about putting it in wrong or it hurting. Any advice?

Hey GL girl! Tampons are pretty harmless if you know how to apply them. Talk to your mom and tell her you want to try tampons. If you don't know what kind to buy, look at websites that sell tampons and look at the reviews on those websites. They'll tell you how good the product is/if it didn't work, etc. Here's some advice from Girls Life that might help!

Tomorrow, the whole seventh grade (including me) is going a field trip to the beach. The problem is IO have my period. It is coming to an end, and I know your not supposed to wear a tampon when you don't have your period. I am going swimming, and I don't like wearing shorts over my bikini bottoms. What do I do?
Many thanks,
-Abby Smile

Hey girl! It's true you're not supposed to wear a tampon when you're not on your period, but if it's just a day it doesn't hurt, so no worries. I would keep one in as a precautionary measure and wear bottoms with coverage, nothing too stringy or revealing, and you should be fine to swim. xx

I'm going on vacation with my grandparents, and it's a swimming vacation! I have my period, but I don't know how to tell tthem that I can't swim (because I don't use tampons yet). How do I tell them that I can't swim?

Hey girl,

Let your grandma know that you're not feeling too great and would rather sit by the pool side than get in the water. She'll prob catch on. Luckily there's plenty more to do on vacation other than swimming. No one's going to force ya to swim if you don't want to!

Hmm, if a pad's a pad then why can't you get the kind you want? Explain to her why the new kind you want to buy are better/different from the ones you used to. If she's still not digging it, try to babysit or dogwalk to get some more cash and buy 'em yourself - you're a big girl now! xx

what does it mean if my pee is yellow? it's never really been this shade before. I'm freaking out Frown

Hey girlie, if it's really yellow, it probably means that you're dehydrated. Drink a couple glasses of water and it should start to get lighter. If it's still a color that's unusual for you later tonight or tomorrow then tell a parent about it.

I'm sick and i just woke up from my three hour nap and I noticed that my period came again DURING my nap and now it's everywhere! It's on my pants, my underwear, my shirt, pillows and the couch! Plus my couch is white. I'm freaking out because I don't know how to tell my dad (my mom won't be home till tomorrow) what on earth do i do?

Hey girlie,

I would try to put a stain remover like Nature's Miracle or a carpet cleaner (whatever you have in your house) on the stain on the couch, and rinse your clothes in hot water and then leave them to dry. After treating the immediate damage, I would call your dad and tell him the truth--he will find out eventually and will be less upset if you tell him the truth now. Accidents happen, so I'm sure he'll understand!

is he is flirting with me .... he has a gf

Thats a very strange way to flirt with a girl. If I were you I would just ignore it, because he has a girlfriend. If he keeps doing it and becomes more blatant you might need to say something, but for now its not a big issue. xoxo kerra

Hi! I'm on the second day of my period and I usually only use light or regular tampons, but today I was using a regular and before school was done I was leaking all over my panty liner and undies. Should I move to a super tomorrow? Do most girls have a heavier flow on their third day than their second day (my period lasts about a week)? I'm worried about getting things too dry down there.

Hey girl!   OK don't panic everything going on with your period is totes normal! Everyone's periods are different and depending on if your lifestyle has changed recently (you are eating differently, working out more or less, even the weather!) your period can change too!  If I were you I wouldn't worry about changing to a Super unless you want to, instead just make sure you change your tampon more regularly.  Also, be sure to wear a panty liner so you don't ruin your undies!

this is really weird but embarrassing. I will sit in a position for five or more minutes and then when I move my legs it really smells. It gets all sweaty and wet down there and then I start to freak out literally 24/7!!!! I am always afraid I have my period and then everybody is gonna see and know. This has stopped me from doing stuff in class and school. I don't know what to do!!!!

Hey girl, if you haven't started your period yet and you're not sure when it's coming, it's okay- just do your best to stay prepared (keep a pad with your stuff).  As long as you're showering regularly and you're wearing clean underwear, you're probs not smelly at all.  Live every day like you're not getting your period!  It will come when it comes and then when it does, you can worry about it.  Live your life, chica!  Good luck!

Hi, okay so my mom hasn't really gave me like the full talk yet. I'm 11 like she has said stuff about periods and she knew i knew what a period is. But she never told me about discharge and panty liners and they only pms symptoms she told me of is cramps and bloating. But i mainly know about that stuff because of this website (Thank you girls life!) but i would like if she would tell me about it. But anyways my problem is I have been getting bloated, fatigue (ALOT) cramps and i've had discharge for a long time also. and i don't know how to tell her about the discharge and how i would like to have panty liners to feel more comfortable like i can't just come out of the blue and say Hey mom i have discharge can i get panty liners if she has never told me about dishcharge how should i tell her??

Hey girlie, ask her to tell you more about puberty and getting your period. Ask any specific questions that you have and make your way to pantyliners.

I hate when they move around and arent long enough. I one time had a pad that shifted and caused a real embarrassing situation for me. Tampons dont shift but they have their issues too.

Hey girl, check out this post: "What the heck is discharge, anyway?"  Hopefully it'll answer your question.  If it's very yellow, you might want to see a doc.  Check out this post too: "Discharge: what's the right color?

So I kinda struggle with how I think about food. I've restricted to 125 calories, 500 cals, 1000 and everytime I convince this other voice in my head its not healthy. I stopped restricting again today and I'm just wondering what are some healthy things I can eat? I've sorta forgotten how to eat healthy.

Hey txtingirl, fruits, veggies, nuts, and meat are all your friends. It's okay to eat unhealthy stuff, just not all the time. Eat pizza, french fries and cheeseburgers every so often. Also work on finding healthy alternatives to those meals like veggie pizza and burgers and baked potatoes. Get creative with your healthy foods too. With smoothies, you can mix and match your fave fruit and/or vegetables. Pair salad dressing or sauces with fruits and vegetables too, (try apple slices dipped in caramel, or carrots dipped in ranch dressing). Hope this helps! Xoxo Smile

Hey girl, if you're experiencing cramps, your period might be coming.  However, if it doesn't come and you're still in pain, talk to your parents and think about speaking with a nurse or a doctor.  Hope ya feel better soon!
