Steaming brings out the flavor without making the veggies soggy or stealing their vitamins.
Vegetable steamers are expanding metal baskets that hold veggies while hot water in the pan steams them. Put a steamer into a large saucepan. Add one inch of water to the pot and place veggies. Cover and steam over medium heat until the veggies are crisp, 3-6 minutes depending on the size.

1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 (16-ounce) bag frozen green beans
2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
-The toasted sesame oil is what gives boring frozen green beans some flavor.

1. Toasting seeds brings out the flavor. Toast them, if you like, by putting the seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for a minute or so. Shake the pan a few times so the seeds toast evenly. When you start to smell them, they’re done. Remove from heat.
2. Put an inch of water into a large saucepan over medium heat. Place the vegetable steamer in the pan and pour in the beans. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes; stir the beans so they cook evenly. Cover and cook for a few minutes until all the beans are hot. Once they’re hot, they’re done – don’t overcook.
3. Using a hot pad, pull the vegetable steamer out of the pan and shake off any water over the sink. Empty the saucepan and wipe it with a clean towel.
4. Put the beans into the pan and stir in the sesame oil, sesame seeds, and salt to taste. Serve hot or at room temperature.
