GL's guide to buying the perfect pair of yoga pants
Step 1: Grab a pile of pants
Yep. A whole big pile. Different styles. Different colors. And most important, different sizes. There is no one perfect pair—it’s all about what feels good and looks good to you.
Step 2: Move around
You want these babies to stay in place—no waistband slippage when you’re in downward facing dog, thankyouverymuch! They should fit your legs nicely so that you don’t have a lot of fabric flopping around as you move. And they should be tight enough that you can see your body shape, but not so tight that you feel squished to death.
Step 3: Ask for help
If you’re in an athletic apparel store (like, er Lululemon), you might as well take advantage of the staff that are specially trained in how the products are supposed to fit, and which pairs would best suit your purpose. Are they right 100 percent of the time? Nah. But they can point out things you wouldn’t have noticed until halfway through your workout.
Step 4: Look closely
OK, this is the awkward part. Bring Mom or a friend along and ask her to look at your booty to see if she can see your undies through the fabric. Yes, you can look in the mirror, but do you really want a close call in the middle of class? No, we didn’t think so. Bring along a particular bright, patterned pair to see just how much you can get away with.
Step 5: Shop around
You don’t have to buy the first pair you see or the second pair you try. Look around and find something that suits your body perfectly, then stock up. Remember, everyone is selling yoga pants these days, so you can be picky!
