Freaky fingers! Am I double-jointed?

My fingers bend back really far and it is kind of scary-looking. Am I double-jointed?

Being double-jointed—or having what’s known as hypermobility syndrome—basically means that your joints are able to stretch farther than most people’s joints are able to. It can include contortionist tricks like putting your legs behind your head, or being able to bend your fingers back rather far, like you. You can see it happen in a single joint, or throughout your body.

There’s nothing wrong with being double-jointed, babe, so don’t worry. While it’s not typical, being double-jointed in and of itself is not a bad thing. However, if you start experiencing joint pain, especially in your knees or back, it’s smart to visit your doctor. Regular exercise or physical therapy should keep you in tip-top shape.
