3 pedi gross-outs--and how to avoid them

One of our favorite summer treats is a pedicure, but just because they feel amazing and make your toes look super chic doesn’t mean they don’t have a price…and we’re not just talking dollars and cents. Here are three gross-outs to avoid the next time you give yourself a spa day.

Gross-out #1: Discolored nails

The chemicals in certain nail polishes can leave your natural nail looking rather nasty. To avoid yellowed tips, make sure to use a base coat whenever your freshen up your polish, particularly when using dark shades.

Gross-out #2: Infected cuticles

You can push ‘em back all you want, but don’t ever snip those cuticles! The best way to take care of them is to soak your feet in warm, soapy water for about 15 minutes. Then, use a blunt wood orange stick to gently push them back.

Gross-out #3: In-grown toenails

If you’ve ever had an in-grown nail, you know the pain it causes. To avoid it, keep your toenails trimmed in a square shape rather than an oval. When you snip the corners, the nail can rub against and into the skin, causing major ouchies.
