Changing eyesight: How to get comfortable wearing glasses

For many girls who have gone their entire lives without wearing glasses, the idea of having to sport a pair of spectacles may seem horrifying. But changes in your eyesight are actually pretty common. In fact, more than 6 in 10 people wear glasses or contact lenses.

Although getting used to frames does take time (and patience), it is definitely not as bad as you might imagine. There's no need to panic about doing poorly on an eye exam. Instead, *focus* on all the positives that come along with your new eyewear!

1. Your can express your personal style. Many people think of glasses only as a visual tool. However, just like shoes, scarves or handbags, glasses are an accessory. With that said, have fun with them. Choose a pair that highlights your personality. Are you artistic and colorful? Try purchasing a pair of bright frames in an unexpected hue like red or blue. Do you love sleek, modern styles? Look at metal frames in crisp shapes. Are you into classic fashion? Search for timeless eyewear in a neutral hue. Whatever your taste, use your new glasses as a way to showcase it.

2. They bring attention to your (already beautiful) features. Belts emphasize waistlines, headbands emphasize luscious locks and glasses can help to highlight facial features. The right style of eyewear can bring out your gorgeous eyes, lips and cheekbones. When shopping for your first pair, test out a variety of frame styles and colors to see which ones you love the most. Don't think of getting glasses as a drawback. Think of them as an opportunity to make you look and feel even more wonderful about yourself!

3. You get to "join the glasses club." Despite the stereotype which assumes all girls who wear glasses are awkward and geeky, many of the world's most influential women rock fierce frames. From actress and music star Demi Lovato to world-renowned author J.K. Rowling, inspirational girls and women everywhere show that wearing glasses is *actually* pretty cool.

4. They can make you look put-together. Similar to a simple gold watch or a strand of pearls, glasses have the power to make a person appear more refined. In fact, studies have shown that wearing glasses can help you to seem more intelligent to strangers!

5. They help you to see! Forget about how glasses will affect your appearance. Think about how they'll impact your day! Once you slip on your specs, you have so much less to worry about, site wise. You won't have to squint to see the board in class. You won't have to panic about finding your way on the field during practice. You won't have to rely on your friends to explain what's going on around you. Even though getting glasses may seem frustrating or annoying, doing so will ultimately make your life so much easier.
