Your Bod

Freaked over my skin condition

There's this g-r-o-s-s thing on my forehead! It’s brown and blotchy and I got it a couple of years ago. My dermatologist says it’s an epidermal nevis. But, when people ask WHAT'S THAT ON YOUR FACE!? what can I tell them without it being a long explanation medical speech thingy?
First off, how rude are these people who comment on your skin?! Second, it is so not gross. Epidermal nevus is a condition that results in thickened and elevated discolored areas of skin. Surgical removal does not provide lasting effects, but many people have found success with creams and moisturizers.
It’s all about confidence
If you consider part of your body gross then other people will follow suit. There are many people who let their insecurity over physical features hijack their body confidence. Look in the mirror. This is one teeny part of a much larger picture. It’s time to reclaim and love your body. You may never find this mark beautiful, but you need to realize that it is definitely not gross!
Tell them to mind their own business!
Apart from specific situations where a person is politely curious, if a someone asks, “What’s on your face?!” they are being rude and should be treated as such. You could try responding with, “Excuse me?” or be cheeky with, “My nose!” and then walk away. You wouldn’t go up to a person with amputated limb and ask “How did you lose that arm?!” OK, I admit that example is way-extreme, but you get the idea, right?
Remember: Own your body, exude confidence and don’t be worried about people who can’t recognize their own rudeness. You go, girl!
