5 ways to practice living in the moment

We can all agree that the invention of social media has changed our lives forever. Although it allows us to stay connected with friends and family, it can definitely occupy way too much of our free time. And while it's fun to update our social statuses, sometimes it's better to put the phone down and live in the moment. Here are five ways to do just that.

Stop and smell roses

@nataliezacek

It's easy to be cooped up inside scrolling through endless TikToks, but at some point, you're going to need some fresh air. Go outside and appreciate nature! Take advantage of the beautiful scenery around you. Sit on a bench, breathe in the fresh air and relaxPro tip: If you're feeling a bit sluggish, going outside helps raise Vitamin D levels—an essential vitamin you can get from basking in the sun.

Give thanks

@ashleebock

Sometimes, we can get so wrapped up in the world of social media that we forget to appreciate those around us. Have a teacher that means a lot to you? Write them a thank you note. Are your besties extra supportive? Tell them how much you care. Life is short, so be sure to express gratitude to those close to you—trust us, you'll make someone's day 100% better! P.S. Your furry friends deserve appreciation too.

Focus on the present

@olovesuuu

We tend to stress ourselves out when we overanalyze things we don't have control over. Instead, try focusing on the present! The next time you find yourself out with friends, put down the phone and savor the moment. In five years, you don't want to look back on memories and think, "Wow, I missed out on a lot because I was too busy on my phone."

Do things that fulfill you

@piesandtacos

Scrolling endlessly can distract us from what truly makes us happy. Connect with yourself by doing things that fulfill you. Whether it's baking, singing or spending time with family, go do it!

Pay attention to the little things

Noticing the little things in life really makes a difference. Next time you're outside, look at the leaves and see what makes each one unique. Next time you look in the mirror, search for a small detail about yourself that you makes you special—your dimples, freckles or pearly white smile.
