My period is late! What's going on?

Usually I get my period around the same time every month, but I’m about two weeks late and I’m worried. I’ve gained a little bit of weight, too. What’s going on?

Gaining weight, especially when your body is still adjusting to menstruation, is totally normal. Between the junk food cravings and the bloating, it’s not unusual for you favorite pair of jeans to feel just a little bit snug.

From your question, though, it sounds like you’re worrying about something else entirely: pregnancy. Remember, babe, if you’ve never had sex or been intimate with a guy, the chances of you being pregnant are zilch. If you are in a relationship that’s starting to heat up, make sure that safety comes first. There are tons of birth control options out there.

So why is your period late? Lots of things can affect the timing of Aunt Flo’s arrival. Anything from illness to end-of-the-year stress could through the hormones that control your cycle off-balance. Chances are you’ll get your period soon, so keep pads or tampons handy.  Still worried? Pay your doctor a visit to make sure you’re in tip-top shape.
