How do I get rid of period odors?

Check these out, too...

Every time I get my period, it smells really bad down there? Is there anything I can do about it? Should I see a doctor?

Hey girlie! Lots of women notice a not-so-nice smell during their periods. It’s nothing to be too concerned about. The distinct smell is often caused by different amounts of iron in your blood.

If you’re a pad-lover, make sure you are switching your pad often. You can also pick up a box of scented pads to help out. Also, during your period, make sure you’re staying clean. Remember to soap up in the shower every day. You can pick up some feminine cleansing cloths from any drugstore to use in between showers.

Tampons may be your best bet for fighting the odor. Just like pads, you can get tampons that have a little scent to help you cinch the smell. Try out a few different ones and see what works best for you.

If you try out all these tips and you still aren’t comfy with what you’re sniffing, take a trip to the doc. While your prob is almost always natural, it may also be a sign of a slight infection. Don’t be nervous to swing by and get a check up. Doctors deal with your sitch all the time and they will be able to tell you more about what’s going on with your bod.

OK so I'm 12 years old and I have cramps in my lower abdomin area and like major mood swings and food cravings and my underarms are smelly sometimes and I do have hair down there. I was just wondering if you think I would be close to getting my period?

Hey babes, you could be. Honestly it is a matter of genetics and body type and hormones. This could all be leading to it or they could just be singular symptoms. Usually things like this dont occur for weeks on end, those symptoms happen like a day before getting your period. xo JANA

Hey girl! Most of the time you can tell right away. So, no worries, you'll get better at knowing and be able to pinpoint when you need to bust out the pads or tampons!

MODERATORS!!! so i got my period yesturday for the month of january and its coming SOOO HEEAVVYY!!!! and when it comes in my pad its liek a mixturxe of gooey and liqud and brigth red also my backs like really hurting badd (lower back) and tips ???

ugh. im 14, 5'1"..and about 95 pounds. ya im petite...i use pads and its awful because they're to big for me! even the smallest size! is it ok to use tampons if im kinda small?

Hey girl! It's perfectly fine. They make slender tampons for smaller girls, so those should work perfectly. You will prob feel much better too!

i am so grossed out by my period. its so nasty...i dont shave "down there"...but i was wondering that, if i do start shaving will i feel cleaner maybe? also, im scared to ask my mom if i should or shouldnt. and does it hurt to shave "down there"??

Hey girl! It doesn't hurt to shave- it's just like shaving your legs. You might feel cleaner during your period if you use tampons instead of pads too.

Wearing tampons gets rid of the smell, because its the blood and sweat(yes you can sweat down there) in the pad that smells. If you use a tampon you won't have the smell, or at least much less of one. ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT PERIODS BOYS OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF ASK ME ON MY PROFILE! hi i go horse back riding and i just got my period this morning i am home from school because i have a cold anyway i have horse back riding on wednesday and i usually wear pads when i have my period but what should i do about this situation i dont have any tampons and im very worried i really hate this period thing my mom doesnt have hers anymore and i think she is so lucky it is really hard for me why do girls have all the problems i mean guys dont seem to have nearly as much issues as us thanks for your time

Hey girl! Pads and horseback riding might be uncomfortable. Why don't you try tampons. THey are super easy to use and then you won't have to worry about wearing a pad.

ok well i was wonderin, when u put a tampon in,does it leave anything behing? does the blood from ur period stay in ur vagina when using a tampon? cuz i asked my mom and thats what she sed. ^ the blodd stays there. is that true? also, does hair "down there" interfere when putting a tampon in? or should u shave the "place" when using tampons?? Hey girl! Just tell your mom you want to talk to her about a boy. Tell her you've developed feelings for a boy and he feels the same way about you. Make sure she knows that you understand that you are young and you aren't getting serious with him, but you like him enough for him to be your boyfriend. Hopefully she will understand.

hey girl! When you and your mom are sitting there, say "mom, I want to talk to you about something..." Waiting for her to intiate a convo about it could take forever, so start it yourself. hey girl! If you really want to talk to her, but you're nervous, it might be best to put yourself in a situation where you can't really back out. If you tell her you want to talk, then you have no excuse for putting it off even longer than you want to. But if you want to go about it another way, write down all your thoughts and leave her a letter that you know she'll find. Hey chicky, yes you should defintely talk to your mom. Your mom is a woman and she's been through it all before so she'll know how to help you. Since you're a little nervous about facing her, write her a letter, send a text or give her an email.

Hey girl! Sounds like you're starting to go through puberty. Getting your period is a part of puberty but it may not come til later if you're still young. It's always good to be prepared and keep some pads in your backpack though!

Hey chica, sorry it took me so long to answer this one. You should use a razor that has the cushioning on the side, to prevent yourself from getting cut. Be sure to use shaving cream too.

yeah it sometimes does smell UGH! but its okay coz it's natural and pretty much every girl has it! (and me!) its not very nice, but you will find ways to get rid of it, like scented pads, or other stuff.

I use feminine wipes a lot and I shave my entire area down there so I dont have any hair that might also trap in odors.

Does anyone else who shaves down there think that shaving helps with reducing the odor a little because I do?
