Battle Scars - An original poem

“Battle Scars”

I don’t cry.
That’s what I say,
when I’m offered a shoulder,
then I walk away.

Don’t tell me you understand,
because that’s where you're wrong
I’m the only one who knows the thread I'm dangling on.

I see you all laugh,
when I roll up my sleeves,
fight the lump in my throat and pray you hadn’t seen.

But they're my battle scars,
etched in stone to weigh me down forever,
carve marks into my heart
and wish I hadn’t ever...
