Breasts are 100-percent biological. Every primate—males and females—grows breasts, which contain milk-secreting mammary glands. In males, the mammary glands and breasts remain undeveloped and “flat” because of the lack of necessary hormones to make them grow. During puberty, however, estrogen and other hormones promotes the growth of breast buds in females. And there you have it—that’s why your boobs grow.
As to the purpose, we know the mammary gland provides milk for infants, but psychologists, biologists and evolutionary scientists have provided a number of theories for why women grow such prominent breasts. Some think the size and shape of the human breast helps babies nurse, while others put it down to sexual attraction.
