All we’ve gotta say is…really, Utah? Regardless of conservative politics, moral values or religious beliefs, in this day and age, is it really smart to completely eliminate sex-ed from public schools? We get that waiting until marriage for sex is a value many Americans ascribe to. But even if a girl decides to wait, wouldn’t it be better for her to be fully informed of her options and simply opt not to go there rather than to potentially make one uninformed decision that affects her entire life?
No matter your stance on sex-ed or the act itself, facts are facts. More than three-quarters of girls have had sex before they turn 20—and that’s for girls who’ve had sex ed. The number jumps to 86 percent without a solid sex-ed curriculum. Eliminating sex-ed doesn’t seem to reduce rates of sexual activity, it increases them, yahoo.com reports. And if teens are going to be having sex regardless of what anyone says or does, shouldn’t they be having safe sex? We certainly think so.

I think that if kids don't learn about things like sex and related things, they will grow up to make wrong decisions and face consequences that they wouldn't even had to worry about if they knew what they were getting themselves into. I think Utah made a big mistake.

I think that it's important to know about these things at any age. The people Utah shouldn't feel like GL is bashing on them. I know people have their state pride and what not but I believe that even if you aren't having sex before marriage, just be aware that it's not just teens that get STD's and things of that nature. And it's not finalized yet, it's just a bill. I'm from Portland(Oregon that is) and we have sex-ed every year and while I'm not Mormon, I have a lot of friends that are and don't complain about the content of the Health classes, they support it while maintaining their other values( waiting marriage and anti-abortions). Thanks for reading! -Destiny

I think sex ed is important, even at our age. So many people I know at school are having sex and doing it unprotected but there are also a lot of them being smart and using the pill and condoms. I am happy I had the talk with my mom, she was open about sex. Our sex ed class was very informative, I guess the only controversial issue and it was a big one was when we were shown what STD's looked like, our teacher showed us a number of actual pictures, and all of guys and their down there parts, I mean it showed it all and they were close ups. I am sure some of my friends werent ready for that but it isnt anything you cant find online. I also say you can do your own sex ed research online and get what you need from birth control to anatomy stuff.

Okay, everyone who thinks Utah made a stupid descision, stop it. Everyone who lives in Utah who is bashing GL and other people's opinions, stop it! It's all opinionated! We are all supposed to be friends, not enemies. Really, is one person going to change Utah's decsicion? Nope. And really, is one person going to change someone else's opinion? Nada. Nope. Ziltch. Goose egg. No! So stop it, please! I honestly love Sex Ed, because it gives you all the right information, some people hate it... A ton! I think all schools should have it! That said, I don't believe that because of this, 1,000,000 Utahns are going to be pregnant and have STD's. I respect everyone's opinion. Thank you for reading this.
