Wow your guests with way cute cupcakes that are actually
pretty darn easy to make. Whip up a batch the night before your bash, serve on
a pretty tray and wait for the ooh-ing and ahh-ing to begin. Trust us, it’s
pretty much guaranteed.
Ingredients:
White or yellow cake batter, made from your favorite boxed
mix or recipe
Red and blue food coloring
Icing, store bought or homemade
Sprinkles and other decorations
Directions:
Mix up the cake batter according to box directions or
recipe. Then, divide batter evenly among three bowls. Add blue food coloring,
drop by drop, to one bowl and stir until desired color is achieved. Add red
food coloring, drop by drop, to another bowl, and stir until desired color is
achieved. Leave third bowl alone.
Fill cupcake pan prepared with muffin liners two-thirds of
the way full with batter, layering the red, white and blue evenly. Bake
according to directions and cool completely before frosting. Decorate as you
like with icing and sprinkles, or create designs using fruit. We love the idea
of using strawberries, blueberries and raspberries to freshen up the festive
baby cakes.
