Most girls report that getting your ear lobe pierced is pretty painless. You’ll feel a sharp pinch for a few seconds, and your ears might be throbbing for a few hours after the fact, but it should not hurt. And so long as you take care of your new piercings, turning your posts and cleaning the hole daily with hydrogen peroxide, you should be able to ward of infection.

by AwesomeAmber on 1/12/2013 8:52:53 AM
I felt like someone was flickinging my ear lobe. It won't hurt at all!!! I worried way too much and it was fun!
by Redhotfire on 12/16/2012 5:13:32 PM
nothing really hurts about getting your ears pierced. But I totally disagree about the gun. The past two times i got my ears pierced it was with a gun and i haven't had any problems. Hope your ears look great!
by GLROCKS2017 on 11/15/2012 7:29:31 PM
I got mine when I was 10. It really didn't hurt at all so for all you girls that haven't gotten them done yet: don't be afraid!!! It really doesn't hurt... and believe me, you'll be happy you did. There aren't many choices in clip earrings
by gymnastqueen00 on 10/22/2012 10:20:43 PM
I was super afraid of getting mine pierced but i got it at Claire's and i barely felt it!
by physicschick on 10/20/2012 2:09:29 PM

by lilbabestar on 10/10/2012 1:55:10 PM
It dosen't hurt unless they get infected. Then it stings, but if you take care of yours then it never should hurt.

Hey girlies out there, Piercing, does it really hurt? Well you will feel a sharp pinch that might make you wanna make a loud scream [I did]. But it doesn't HURTTT. Some people make it more than what it really is, but at the end of the day, it's worth that 1 second of 'pain'. Trust me Tips on how to overcome your piercing prob: 1- Every place that pierces will let you bring a stuffed animal that you can hug during the event. (Any place that says "no" are meanies. 2- Having that question in your head asking "what place should I go and trust?" Go to Clair's. They are really good at this stuff. 3- Go with a friend. They will hold your hand if you're scared. [If their a true friend they wouldn't make fun of ya ;)] *Try not to get a "rookie" but if you do don't stress over it. Just trust that they will do it safe & right *DO NOT move or jump around while they are in the process. Because then, you will have BIGGER probs to worry about! Good luck girlies! Lizzie <3
by neonroxursox on 9/21/2012 12:06:40 AM
It hurts less than a shot. I have two piercings on each each and they both felt the same getting them done. I got them done at the same place both times (proffesional place) NOT at claire's (my mom wouldn't let me but I'm glad she didnt) my friend got them done at claire's and they were SOOOO uneven
by cookiemonstah123 on 9/19/2012 7:16:05 PM
It's just a little click and then bam you have earrings! but pull you hair back, I know someone who had their hair go into the hole with the earring, it's pretty nasty!
by penguinpink12 on 9/18/2012 2:21:08 PM
the frist time i got my ears pierced it did not hurt but i got them done at claires and they were put i worng. the 2nd time i got them they hurt so much. dont get them done at claires. i am might be geting my ears pierced for my birthday( in the same place on my ear since they closed up) and my mom said she would like to have them done with a hollow needle since they dont just push the sink to the side so they dont cause bumps. you have to clean them them or they may hurt to change them, last time id int every day i could not chang them with out getting sick. good luck
by khat2010 on 9/13/2012 6:15:29 PM
@Vamppixie OMG I know right! The first time I got my second piercings I went to Claires and they were so uneven! After the few months you have to keep them in were up, they got infected and closed up! I had to get them re-done! I'll tell you, I did not go back to Claires to get them re-done.
by skullhottie97 on 9/13/2012 3:56:47 PM
WHATVER YOU DO DONT GO TO CLAIRES! They had to re-do my ears 2 times each. the fact is these girls arent proffesionals, you need to go to a peircing place.
by vamppixie on 9/11/2012 9:02:21 PM
True, getting your ears peirced does NOT hurt all that much. Just a little pinch. But you have to make sure you take care of it for a little while...rotating the earring, rubbing it with rubbing alchohol, otherwise it will get infected and then it WILL hurt. Best of luck, know you can do it!! Its a big step

by mibby1 on 9/11/2012 11:51:23 AM

by mibby1 on 9/11/2012 11:47:36 AM
I got mine done at walmart with a piercing gun and the lady who did it did my ears uneven and the needle wasnt sterilized... i could tell cuz i got an ear infection and a blood clot in my ear and had to have surgery and even that didnt work so yea definitely if u get them pierced get them done professionally unless u wanna get plastic surgery in the future if u ever wanna get them again :/
by callster2482 on 9/10/2012 9:13:49 PM
I got my ears pierced when I was 3 and a quarter, so I only remember a little, but I remember that I got them pierced at Bombay Jewelers, an Indian jewelry place, and it hurt a little when it was getting pierced, and it hurt a little bit later, but it's not too bad. just follow all the instructions they give you about not changing your earrings for some amount of time, and not wearing drop earrings for some other amount of time.
by jayjay927 on 9/10/2012 9:13:03 PM
i got mine pierced at the doctors when was eight and its not that bad just stay calm and you will just feel a little pinch it may hurt a little after but its not too bad, make sure to keep them clean and listen to all the directions given to you
by Kaycris on 9/9/2012 10:33:21 PM
Honestly, it doesn't hurt that much, just a little sting and then nothing. I got mine done at Walmart and it was perfectly fine! It did feel like there were doorknobs on my ears and I thought that my earrings would get caught on the clothes racks but the feeling wore off after a few hours. I was 10 when I got them pierced. There's nothing to be afraid of, just keep good care of them!
by maddiejetzer22 on 9/9/2012 10:30:41 PM
I agree with the pinch your ear thing. thats how much it hurt for me, and I got mine peirced when I was 12 and they did not freeze my ears or anything.
by littlemissfashion on 9/9/2012 10:09:20 AM
It's really not that bad. Just a quick pinch, then a little throbbing. I got mine at Walmart and they did a perfectly fine job. It hardly hurts. And that's a lot coming from me, because I was 9 and a wimp:p
by DaNcInGQu33N9812 on 9/9/2012 12:25:45 AM
Umm.... actually, hydrogen peroxide will irritate your skin. You're supposed to use it IF your ears get infected. You're really supposed to clean it with boiled (sterilized) salt water. :/ Regular ear piercing doesn't hurt much. I got my belly-button pierced and it was quite a bit worse than that. ^-^
by peace1089 on 9/8/2012 11:44:01 PM
I got mine done at the doctor (I figured that's the cleanest and safest), and he even numbed it for me! So I can safely say that for me, it didn't hurt at all!
by Harry-Potter-Fan on 9/8/2012 9:56:40 PM
just pinch your earlobe with your nails and that's how much it hurts! afterwards it feels a little weird but it's not too bad

I am in 10th grade and 15 right now, and my boyfriend and i have been together since 7th grade. My dad doesn't think we should be dating, but my mom's ok with him being my boyfriend.I am not even allowed to call him. Normally, we have chorus together, so the whole not seeing eachother outside of school thing wasn't so bad, but this year, he goes to the votech and is gone half the school day and has to take geometry instead of chorus so i only see him for about 5 nonconsecutive minutes every day. I really want to be able to talk to him more or be with him more, and i'm not sure what I should do. Any advice?

NEVER EVER EVER EVER clean a piercing with hydrogen peroxide! Especially cartilage piercings. It will make the skin around the piercing dry and cracked. And it will make the piercing bleed and prevent proper healing. Instead use the solution the piercer gave you or a sea salt soak.
by the band geek on 9/7/2012 7:08:16 PM
It's painless. I got mine done in grade.2 and it's was painless and it didn't hurt after that. DO NOT TAKE YOUR EARING'S OUT BEFORE THE TIME THEY GIVE YOU NOT EVEN 1 DAY!!!!!!!!! I took it out one day before and it grew over a little bit and I had to shove my earing through the skin. Well actually my mom did it. It really hurt so don't do that! If they say ex:3 weeks it might be best to wait 4.Have fun getting your ear pierced

Hi I got my ears pierced for the first time in May, I was 15. I got them done at Claire's specifically because they use the gun and will do both lobes at the same time if you request it. I was SO afraid it was going to hurt, which is why I waited so long but I promise you it doesn't hurt as much as you think. You get so worked up and it's honestly like someone pinched your ears. After they're in they put this stuff on your earing that cools it and they feel a lot better. Unfortuneatly for me the earring got stuck in one of the guns and that hurt but they got it really quick. The throbbing after probably hurts more than the initial pinch but it's not too bad. Trust me, you'll probably be so excited about getting your ears pierced you won't notice much. Definitely make sure to follow the cleaning instructions you're given, an infection hurts worse than the pinch and the throbbing! Good luck!
by BaileyMarissa on 9/6/2012 11:47:23 PM
I got mine pierced at Claires, and I didn't get an infection. However, I was apparently really bad with needles, and almost blacked out. I had to sit down for fifteen minutes afterwards. I hate needles.
by vicy998 on 9/6/2012 10:08:45 PM
@ rosiekitty94, I got my ears pieced at Wall-Mart too, they did a fab job! Someone who did your ears must of not of been experienced. I got my ears pierced when I was like 5 years old. Didn't hurt at all.
by Chloe<3 on 9/6/2012 7:40:45 PM
Getting my ears pierced hurt. I mean, I said "OW" when she shot me in the ear, and my head was hurting for a couple hours later. Then, lo and behold, my ears got infected because the woman at Claire's put the back of the earring on crooked. (FYI, everyone I know who has gotten their ears pierced at Claire's has gotten an infection. EVERYONE.) I'm allergic to nickel as well, so I can't wear cheapie earrings or my ears flair up, meaning that for the past three years, my ears have gone thru flair up after flair up. It's worth it to wear earrings, but gosh, it can be a real pain!
by marym on 9/6/2012 7:35:27 PM
I got mine pierced at walmart. They somehow managed to pierce them crooked and burst a blood vessel.I didn't realize that before the 8 weeks I was supposed to keep them in 24/7 was up. I ended up with a blood clot. So, if you're getting your ears pierced don't go to walmart, and when in doubt ask your doctor! that way you can fix any problem and don't have to let the holes close up!

i got mine pierced when i was a couple weeks old, but in 2011 i got my 2nd piercings for my birthday, but i DO NOT reccomend getting your cartlidge pierced, its terrible, pain, a lot of girls have trouble with it, becuase it get infected.
by angie333 on 9/5/2012 11:14:48 PM
Getting your ears pierced doesn't hurt, don't worry I've had it done three times cuz my holes closed up, and most recently it was two years ago. It pinches a little and can throb for a little while after, but otherwise its painless.
by topaz1116 on 9/5/2012 10:01:23 PM
I got mine double pierced at Claires two years ago, then i had to get minor surgery because the person who did it told me i could take them out after six weeks, so always remember: DONT TAKE THEM OUT UNTIL SIX MONTHS HAVE PASSED!!!!! Thx 4 reading!
by purplecupcake411 on 9/5/2012 9:38:57 PM
I got my ears pierced for my fifth birthday, they used a piercing gun because that was thirteen years ago and who knew anything about the dangers of that stuff back then anyway. They forgot to loosen my second piercing, so I'm screaming and squeezing my poor cousin's hand like a vice grip and the guy doing my piercing is freaking out trying to figure out what's wrong and my mom is totally shocked into silence and my cousin's screaming because I'm hurting her hand until one of them, I don't remember whom, figured out what was really going on and the guy fixed it, but mine was an extreme case. Just remember to remind the person doing it to make sure the earing is loose enough on your ear.
by missnickib on 9/5/2012 9:07:46 PM
When I got my ears pierced, it hurt WAAAAAAAY less than I thought it would. It just felt funny at first and then it felt normal. I mean, my ears were a little tender afterwards if I messed with them too much, but for the most part, getting your ears pierced is pretty painless! Soo, if you're contemplating piercing your ears, I say go for it, girlies!
by Cait7221 on 9/5/2012 7:20:37 PM
I got it when I was one. Then I just re-pierced them because they closed. So I remember it as nothing. It felt like nothing. No pain or anything! You won't regret getting your ears pierced! Earrings are pretty! Good luck!!!!

Modmodmod ok so I'm about to turn 13 and i REALLY want to get my ears pierced a second time. The only thing is my mom is kinda uptight about this stuff, Ive never asked but I'm still not sure that shed let me. i think part of the reason though is that she thinks no one my age has they're ears double pierced so she doesn't want me to look inappropriate even though by my grade lots of girls are even getting they're ears triple pierced. That was the issue the first time i got my ears pierced at 10 because she thought most girls didn't get they're ears pierced until 14. Sorry for Rambling. Thanks!!!
by Myipodrox16 on 9/5/2012 6:10:24 PM
getting your ears pierced hurts less than a shot. (i should know cuz i got a shot the same day and it hurt a lot more.) so...yeah. dont worry about having it done with a earring gun, it is comppletely ok. i dont think theres really any difference, everyone gets their ears pierced with a earring gun, and seriously, i know of no mishaps.
by lilmissamazing on 9/5/2012 6:04:45 PM
I first got my ears pierced when I was 3... And don't remember a thing... I got a second hole done on each ear when I was 13 and they used a gun... There was a but tingly feeling but overall it didn't hurt... A week later I got my cartilage pierced with a needle and it was nothing compared to the gun! If I had the decision to chose I would choose te needle but overall both are pretty painless. This is all coming from a dramatic girl who absolutely can not stand needles! Lol

Mod? I'm gonna audition for a singing thing. I'm jittery when I first go up but feel better after. Any advice?
by YayaYuiki on 9/5/2012 5:08:39 PM
I think the amount of pain for ear piercing is different for everyone. I had mine done in 8th grade and it did feel like a pinch. I thought it was going to hurt like as painful a stubbing a toe is, but my reaction to it was more of surprise than of pain. One minute my ears were earringless, and the next second I felt something heavy in my earlobes. It did hurt, but it more was like a throbbing feeling like when all of the blood rushes to your head. I wanted to take a break, and I was getting ready to say so, but then the lady put the other one in. My ears were sore for the rest of the night, but it was totally worth it. I think the more surprising thing of getting ears pierced is the actual weight of the earring, not the pain. If that makes sense. Also, mine were done with a gun. As long as you clean out your ears and earrings frequently, it should be fine. The only thing I don't recommend is getting them done at a place that offers to do it for free. A definite no go.

by lgraciarod on 9/5/2012 3:56:41 PM
Well chica here are some tips! Don't freak out it's painless! Also don't go to a place like Claire's. Go somewhere were people are trained and know what they are doing. Tattoo parlor's or really nice jewelry stores are a great to start off at! Now for pain wise. I just got mine done when I was ten so about three years ago. Let me tell you, it doesn't hurt! I was so nervous but there is practically no cartilage in your ear lobe so it doesn't hurt as if getting the tip of your ear pierced. You can also call ahead and ask the place if two people could do it at the same time. That way you get it over with once and done and don't have to wait for the other ear. (That's what I did and it was convenient.) They first well clean your ear with an alcohol swab. Then draw a dot to place your ears. They out the earring in a gun and put it by your ear. The gun quick pinches your ear in a blink of an eye. It automatically puts the back in to. It felt odd for about 3 seconds then i felt nothing!
by BabyDahl13 on 9/5/2012 3:54:23 PM
I got my ears pierced when I was 2 then I got another piercing when I was 11. It was just a pinch, but that's probably cuz we used a piercing gun.
by sweetie99 on 9/5/2012 3:53:40 PM
I got mine pierced when I was 10 at Claire's. They took a purple marker and made a dot on each of my earlobes, then they lined the gun up with it. Unfortunately one of the girls was a rookie and the earring got stuck halfway through my ear. Now one of my piercings is slanted. It was just a pinch. It's worth it!
