Is it ever OK to turn down a date to the dance?

This guy asked me to Homecoming and I'm not sure I want to go with him. He's nice and everything, but he likes me and I don't want him to think we're dating. I'm leaning towards no, but should I just say yes anyway?

Hey girl! While it may seem like the nice thing to do, saying yes when you really don’t want to just leads to hurt feelings down the road. Plus, going to the dance with him might lead him on and make him believe there is something between you both. If you truly don’t want to go to the dance with this guy just let him know as nicely as possible! Sure his feelings will be hurt, but it’s better than letting him think you’re interested.

On the other hand, if ya need a date and feel like he’d be a fun person to go with, talk to him about it. Tell him that you’d just be going to the dance as friends but you wanna have fun and think he’d be an awesome date for the night. Dancing to a few songs doesn’t necessarily mean you’re BF/GF. Letting him know the deal up front might save you from some awkward situations later and you’ll have yourself a fun drama-free date for the dance!
