How to deal with grief: A lesson from Sesame Street

 
Many years ago, our beloved PBS mainstay, Sesame Street, lost a beloved character, Mr. Hooper. And with that loss, they gained an opportunity to teach Big Bird—and their young audience—about death and dealing with loss.

 

In light of the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., last Friday, we think this a particularly timely video to watch and share with friends and siblings. Take a look, and tell us how you handle grief in the comments…

My dog died recently... he was only 2 years old. I came home from school and within 3 hours he died... I only got to see him for ten minutes and he looked like he was in so much pain... I still cry, but to make myself feel better, I got one of his un-ruined toys and I sleep with it EVERY night. I don't think there was a night I haven't slept with his toy. It makes me feel better.

im going to be super sad during the summer because all of my besties are going to colorado together for the whole summer but ill be bored here at my house until i go on vacation for 3 weeks on an island with NO INTERNET! im gonna be depressed. have any tips of things i can do during the summer that will help me not be depressed and have fun? thank you sooooo much! <3

 

Hey! try something new this summer, you'll be surprised how stimulating it can be. If you think you're terrible at drawing, get a sketchpad and take trips to the park with it. If you're not into exercise try walking each morning and try to build that up to a daily jog. It'll keep your mind engaged and off sad feelings about your friends, trust me Smile http://www.girlslife.com/RockYourWeekend.aspx

My great-grandmother died sunday night. I was really close with her and I miss her a lot. But I'm staying strong like she always did. She lived without her husband for 8 years. She's an inspiration.
