Beauty trend alert: You can whiten your teeth with activated charcoal

The internet is always abuzz with inventive, new beauty trends. The latest: using activated charcoal to make your pearly whites whiter.

One thing you need to know about it: it literally turns your teeth black. Why? Well, that's just the color of charcoal. It may look a little strange brushing your teeth with this black mess, but some users swear that charcoal is the answer to all our teeth whitening problems.

How does it work? When you brush with the powder, it sticks to everything it touches, including things like stains and plaque. So, when you wash it all away, you are left with clean, shiny teeth.

So the big question is, does this actually work? Alongside all of the amazing reviews these products have been receiving, I decided to try it myself. The verdict: after only a few uses, my teeth seemed visibly whiter. Plus, the charcoal powder had a minty flavor that left my mouth feeling clean and refreshed every time. It was totally worth it. Check out this vid of YouTuber Ellko testing the trend below.

Activated charcoal comes in a variety of forms, so you don’t *have* to use the powder. Personally, I tried inVitamin’s Activated Charcoal Tooth and Gum Powder, but there are tons of products to choose from such as this Colgate charcoal toothpaste and even Colgate charcoal-infused toothbrushes
