The dry skin girlie's guide to glowy winter makeup

We'll be the first to say it: The glowy skin trend isn't going anywhere. Here's how to score a dewy complexion, even when it's beyond freezing outside.

Prepping your skin

Starting with a good base is arguably the most important part of making sure your dry skin is ready for a dewy look. After using a gentle cleanser (a classic is the Vanicream Unscented Gentle Facial Cleanser, $11), apply a hefty dose of moisturizer.

Important tip: You always want to use SPF either in your moisturizer or in your foundation to protect your skin from the sun (yep, even in the winter!). One of our faves is CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion, $15. If you're already covered with SPF in your foundation, the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, $18, is a great option.

For those with extra dry skin, an eye cream can help concealer go on *so* much smoother. CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, $13, is perfect when your eyes need a little pick-me-up. Remember to use your ring finger for the gentlest application.

Time for face makeup!

After letting your moisturizer set, apply a hydrating primer. The Rare Beauty Always an Optimist Illuminating Primer, $28, is the perfect base for a glowy look. Lightly tapping this on before your foundation leaves a cool, shimmery effect throughout your day.

For a budget-friendly base, try the e.l.f. Cosmetics Illuminating Face Primer, $8, which will also leave your skin glowing in the sun. For a quick makeup day, you can even mix this with a drop of foundation or wear it alone for a super natural look.

Pro tip: Use a damp sponge to apply foundation on dry skin for a smooth, glowy finish.

L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, $15 is an amaze drugstore option that will leave you glowing and moisturized all day. (We also heart Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, $46.)

Once you've gone in with your fave concealer, it's time for powder! Another dry skin predicament: It can be hard to set your look without getting rid of that glowy finish. A good tip is doing a very slight bake: Dip your makeup sponge into a translucent powder and set any areas with concealer. Then, after letting it sit for a few minutes, you can sweep it away with a fluffy brush and dab a little bit of powder on the rest of your face.

To avoid any mattifying that could happen with this step, grab a dewy setting spray to add some shine back, like NYX's Dewy Finish Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray, $10. Glowy, girl!
