Sophie talks Mostly Ghostly 3 and Gamer's Guide

We have all come to love the incredibly spunky and adorable Ashley Parker on the awesome Disney XD show Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything. Now Sophie Renyolds, the mastermind behind Ashley's fun-loving personality, is taking on an entirely new role as Cammie in Mostly Ghostly 3: One Night in Doom House, out Sept. 9.

But she's not games and ghouls *all* the time. Check out what she had to say about her upcoming projects, as well as girl power, her maj dance skills and her fave characters below!

Girls' Life: Let’s talk video games: Do you play any IRL? If so, what’s your fave?

Sophie Reynolds: I play some games here and there, but I would definitely not consider myself a gamer. I do have fun playing even though I’m not very good! Some of my favorites are Just Dance, Mario Kart and Little Big Planet.

GL: Mario Kart is so fun! So, what would you do if your world was transformed into a video game?

Sophie: If my world was transformed into a video game I would most definitely freak out! But it could be kind of fun right? After calming down for a minute, I’m sure I would enjoy it.

GL: How does it feel to be the only girl gamer on Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything. What message do you hope that sends to GL girls?

Sophie: Video games are often viewed as a thing for boys and that could not be further from the truth! I love that Ashley gets to be this strong female gamer and really represent the girl gamers all over. Girls are so often told what they can and can’t do or like, and it has always confused me as to why this is. Girls can do and be whatever they want! I hope that Ashley really stands as an example to girls watching that you can do whatever you want and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

GL: That is an absolutely fantastic message! Mostly Ghostly 3 comes out next month—what was it like to star in a movie about spirits and other spooky things?

Sophie: I am so excited for Mostly Ghostly to come out! It was a ton of fun to be in movie about spirits and ghosts because I love stuff like that. I’m not entirely sure I believe that ghosts are real, but I love the idea of it and have always enjoyed ghost stories. We had such a fun time filming this movie and I cannot wait for everyone to see it.

GL: In addition to acting you're also a fab dancer. Tell us, what do you love most about it?

Sophie: Thank you! I love to dance and I always have. Dance for me has always been about the emotional connection. I loved making others feel something through dance and letting out my own emotions. I think the challenge of dance has also always been one of my favorite things about it. I feel like there is constant room for growth in dance and that is really special to me.

GL: Ashley (from Gamer's Guide) and Cammie (from Mostly Ghostly) seem like super fun characters to play. What do you have in common with each of them? Do you feel connected to one more than the other?

Sophie: Cammie and I definitely share similarities, our biggest probably being that she is a dancer! We both dance so doing the dance scenes in the movie was a ton of fun. I think Cammie is also a really caring and smart girl, and I love that about her. I really relate to Ashley in a lot of ways. She always sticks up for her friends and is never afraid of a challenge. She is also definitely one to roll with the boys, as her three best friends are guys, and I am the same way. Plus, I think her competitive spirit is something we share.

GL: If you had to choose Ashley or Cammie, who would you pick?

Sophie: I loved playing Cammie, but if I had to pick which one I am more connected to I would have to say Ashley. Working on a character over two seasons and really shaping her as a person has really deeply connected me to Ashley. [Her] fearlessness and ability to not care what others think of her is definitely something I learn from all the time. We might not be exactly the same, but I think there will always be parts of Ashley in me.
