Student stands up to drastically altered school pic

It's pretty normal for photo companies to do a little retouching. Actually, we sort of love how they can make that horrible zit we had on picture day just disappear. But when it comes to Photoshop, sometimes things go a little too far like skin recoloring, lip recoloring, eyebrow reshaping, and even face thinning. Those definitely cross the line.

After one high school issued a second set of school IDs half-way through the year, students were wondering what was up. One teenage redditor compared the two IDs, and when she did she saw a dramatic change in herself. Her face in the second ID was skinnier and her lips and skin were recolored to make her look more "appealing."

She went not only to the school to complain, but also to the TwoXChromosomes section on the user-generated content website Reddit to express her outrage. While the student loves her round face, it seems as though the photo company did not. "The new photo no longer even looks like me but rather a prettier twin sister," she wrote in her post.

High school isn’t always the most pleasant time when you are still facing puberty and getting used to your changing body. You're supposed to learn to love looking the way you do, not be forced into a non-optional extreme digital makeover. While we are constantly reminded in school that we should accept ourselves and create our own positive body images, this shows the opposite.

Luckily, the school is not to blame. The retouches were done by the photo company, and the teachers were just as unhappy about the Photoshopping as the students. They even took steps to make sure the yearbook pictures would be the original untouched ID photos. Thanks to this outspoken teen, this class of girls will get to look back on their high school days and actually recognize their friends' faces instead of some digitally altered copies. When it comes to digital makeovers, stay true to yourself like this teen did. And remember: Photoshop can only retouch a pic, not who you are inside.

How would ya feel if someone retouched one of your pics without your permission? Would you speak up? Comment below!
