The LGBTQ community responds to President Trump's trans military ban

Earlier this morning, President Trump took to Twitter to reveal a new policy which would ban transgender people from serving in the military.

In a series of three tweets, he wrote, “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

Shortly after, people in the LGBTQ community shared their disbelief, shock and anger toward this announcement while also showing signs of solidarity and sending messages of encouragement for trans folks. Their tweets (see below) emphasize the importance and value of transgender individuals in the military—and in all spaces—and how you can help.

People in the military, no matter how they identify, should be honored and recognized for their commitment to protect and serve others, including you. They should not degraded or alienated by our president.
