Beat spring allergies once and for all
Start taking an antihistamine now
Waiting until you start feeling poorly is a mistake many allergy sufferers make. And ya know what? They just keep suffering. As soon as you feel your eyes go itchy or your nose drains into the back of your throat, it’s time to take some meds. Talk to your doctor about which one may be right for you, then hit up the pharmacy for a pack and take them as directed. None of this “well, I feel pretty good to day so I think I can skip it” reasoning. You feel good ‘cause you’re taking the meds, silly girl!
Close your windows
Don’t let pollen, ragweed and all that sneeze-causing stuffs get a foothold in your room. Keep your windows closed for now, especially if you don’t have screens. Once the pollen falls and spring rains wash it away, you should be able to let a little breeze inside.
Wash your hands
There’s no harm in spending tons of time outside, but when you come across a sink, do wash your hands thoroughly, just in case you have allergens clinging to your skin. It’s an easy way to keep yourself feeling good 24/7.
Stop touching your face
And while you’re at it, train yourself to leave your face—and particularly your mucus membranes—alone. That means no rubbing your eyes, scratching your nose or biting your nails. Hey, it’s a good way to kick bad habits, right?
Nip it in the bud
You don’t have to shut yourself away from spring—you just have to be smart. If you’re allergic to pollen, bring those wildflowers inside…but pull out the pollen-bearing stamens, and then wash your hands like a crazy person. Stretch out on the deck…but sweep off the bad stuff first. Dine al fresco…but wipe down the table before you nosh.
