Not having the summer of your dreams? Here's what to do

Can you believe it's already August? Just yesterday, we were sitting at our desks, finishing up our math homework. Now, we have no responsibilities, no obligations and *all* the time in the world.

Tbh, back-to-school season is getting closer. It may feel like these summer days have just passed you by. Maybe you haven't been going to the beach every day like you thought you would, or you've only crossed one thing off your bucket list. Sure, it is technically the summer season, but it hasn't really *felt* like summer.

If you aren't having the summer of your dreams, DW. Here are a few easy ways to turn this summer around and make your dreams a reality in these last few weeks before school starts.

Plan your next social event...like rn.

@avajules_

If you aren't the best at making plans with your friends, this is your sign to reach out ASAP. You can suggest something as simple as meeting up for acai bowls or just inviting them over for a pool day. If you aren't usually the planner, don't be scared: It is actually super simple. First, ask how they've been or express how much you miss them. Then suggest a plan and offer some dates that work for you. Lastly, finalize the plan (and don't forget to mark your calendar)!

Spend some time with yourself

Like we said, summer = no obligations and all the time in the world. During the school year, it is hard to make time for yourself within your busy schedule. Now, it's time to catch up on some much-needed self care. Here are some ideas to get both your body and your mind to their fullest potential.

Get a summer job

@rumithewhirlingpuggie

Why not make a little money during all this free time? If you are too young, there are still tons of job opportunities out there that will both bring in some extra money and be flexible enough to accommodate *all* the summer fun. Try reaching out to family and friends about babysitting, dog walking or house cleaning before school starts up again.

Try a new hobby

@evelynandpeter

One possible reason you haven't been having the summer of your dreams is that you've been stuck at home feeling *extra* bored. If this is you, trying a new hobby will be your BFF. If you are crafty, try a new DIY such as learning to crochet, jewelry making or painting. Have a green thumb? Try planting a garden or making art out of nature. Maybe you have a ton of different interests—cooking, trying out some nail art or starting a YouTube channel might be the way to go. The possibilities are endless.

Clean. Clean. Clean.

@krupcake

If spring cleaning passed you by, why not start now?! For most of us, our closet is a mess (and we mean a mess). Try pulling out some pieces you no longer wear and donate them. Next, organize, fold or hang what is left in your closet. This may take a while but the end result is totally worth it.

Spend some time with family.

@erinthumann

It might be that you and your bestie's vacation schedules aren't matching up. Or maybe you have been home all summer while your friends are busy working. If you are in need of some social interaction, simply turn to your family (they're actually some pretty great company). Chances are, they'd love to spend some time with you too. Try planning a family dinner, movie night, shopping date or fun activity.
