This brave teen's quick-thinking saves a life

Imagine this scary scene: A mom is shopping with her 11-month-old infant in her arms, when suddenly she realizes the baby isn't breathing! The store manager quickly calls 911 but it will still take time for them to arrive. Scary, right?

Luckily, 17-year-old Abby Snodgrass heard the commotion from several aisles away. Abby had recently learned CPR in her health class and quickly ran to the mother and baby to help. In the middle of all the chaos, Abby started preforming CPR to revive the baby. Eventually the baby started breathing again. Phew!

How did she pull it off?

Abby said, "The one thought that crossed my mind was, ‘What if this doesn’t work?’ And I just had to push it out of my mind and keep going because I knew that’s what I had to do.”

And get this- after emergency responders arrived on the scene, they said that without the teen's swift actions, the infant may have died. Because of Abby's quick-thinking, the mother and child are now doing well.

"We are exceeding grateful to the young women who helped our daughter," wrote the baby's family in a statement yesterday.

Abby was able to turn this unexpected nightmare into an example of selflessness and bravery in times of emergency. Even without a cape or shield, she's our superhero this week!
